My First Week in Dublin
For those who read and recall a previous post of mine titled The Clock is Ticking, you will know that I left Canada in February and decided to try my luck with finding a job in Dublin. While I went to London to put in the application for the visa, I then embarked on a month long trip around Europe while it was being processed. After heading back to London to pick up the visa, I then made my way to Dublin and have just completed my first week here. I will not lie. Looking for a job is not fun. In fact I hate it. Seeing as though I hope to …
5 Reasons Why I Love London
Having spent the last 9 nights in London, I am now on a ferry heading to Dublin. I always get a little sad whenever I leave London. It’s a city where I feel completely at home, and if I could, I would move there tomorrow. However, I know a lot of people don’t feel the same way about this city, but I find that some of the reasons why I love London are also some of the reasons why a lot of people hate it. Here are 5 of my reasons. 1. It’s Crowded Probably the most crowded city that I have been to within the western world (and …
The Cemetery of the Nameless – My Epic Fail
Having some free time in Vienna I thought I would do something a little different and venture far out of the city centre to visit a place that few would normally visit. The reason why few would visit is because it’s a pain in the ass to get to. I am referring to the Cemetery of the Nameless, located in Vienna’s 11th district (Simmering). It held no particular interest to me other than the fact that Vienna seems to have a large amount of cemetery’s and this one seemed a little mysterious and gave me a good excuse to get out of the centre. For those not familiar with it, most …
An Unexpected Night in Villach
For those half a dozen who currently follow my blog, you may have noticed that there has not been a lot of new content as of late. The reason is quite simple. It’s difficult to travel and write a travel blog at the same time. More specifically, its difficult to travel Europe and write a travel blog. The reason I find is that in Europe I tend to travel faster due to the close proximity of things, usually spending about 4 nights in each place. Also, because Europe is extremely expensive I find myself wanting to make the most of everyday and see as much as I can. With that being …
Liebster Award
I had the privilege of being nominated for a Liebster award by the awesome Bennett from The Further Adventures of Bennett. Just like me, Bennett believes that everyone should experience the thrill of living abroad for a certain period of time. Right now, she is doing her thing in China. So what is the Liebster Blog Award? In a nutshell: When you receive the award, you post 11 random facts about yourself and answer 11 questions from the person who nominated you. Pass the award onto 11 other blogs (make sure you tell them you nominated them!) and ask them 11 questions. You are not allowed to nominate the blog …
My Impressions of Auschwitz
It’s amazing what a human being can endure when they have no other choice. Compared to the amount of people who died in Auschwitz, there were very few survivors, and those who did survive were never the same, both mentally and physically. I had wanted to visit for a long time and at first I was going to go alone, but was persuaded by many in my hostel to go on a group tour because of not only the convenience, but the amount of information the guides will pass onto you. For 115 Zloty (approximately 28 Euros) it included the bus trip there and back from Krakow, as well as …
An All Around Bad Day
After spending 5 pretty great days in San Jose, and the rest of the San Francisco Bay area, it was time to bid a sad farewell, and move on to London, which is where I arrived today. I am easily pleased, and there is not much more I could ask for then to arrive into London on my birthday. I do love this city. However, today really just sucked. I arrived into San Francisco airport to realise that my British Airways operated Iberia flight had been cancelled. Luckily they were able to put me onto a Virgin Atlantic flight which left the same time. At this point there were no issues, …
4 Things I’ve Learnt While Living Abroad
Well, the time has come. I left Canada yesterday, my home for the last 2 years and am currently in sunny California. Let me tell you, if you thought writing a blog post in a coffee shop would be glamorous, you should try it in an airport. While I was sitting in Buffalo airport, overcome with boredom, I couldn’t help but reflect on my time in Toronto, and the things I can take away from this experience of living abroad. I know there are more, but here are 4 that I jotted down. 1. I don’t get home sick Although I am missing Toronto already due to the fact that I am moving away for good, I don’t really understand …
Berlin Remembers
I have barely even scratched the surface of Berlin. I was at that point where I just didn’t care. I’m sure most travellers experience this from time to time. I was feeling lazy, but also a little down that my time in Europe was coming to an end. I think for this reason, I really did not make the most of my time in this city. However, the little that I did do, left me wanting more. I did not know what to expect when I arrived in Berlin. I looked around and wondered where the ancient buildings were, along with the cobblestone streets, the old European feel. It was like no other …
North American Air Travel: Get Creative
I wanted to share the experience I had recently in booking my flights from Toronto to San Francisco. One thing I have learnt from living in North America for the last 2 years is that air travel within this continent is not cheap. Especially when you are flying from Canada, and especially when you are booking less than 3 weeks before you fly. Booking well in advance would solve a lot of my problems, but that’s just not how I roll. As I mentioned in a previous post, The Clock is Ticking, I am heading to San Francisco for a visit before I fly out to Europe. Using the ever popular …
